Sexual Harassment and Abusive Behavior Training Requirement Update

A new bill (SB 778) was passed and signed by the governor on 8/30/19 extending the training deadline for current employees. It took effect immediately. This information is an update to the information contained in the article below.

  • Training is now required for current employees by January 1, 2021, and thereafter once every two years. Employers who provide the training in 2019 are not required to provide refresher training again until two years after the training they did in 2019.
  • New non-supervisory employees must be provided training within 6 months of hire.
  • New supervisory employees must still be trained within 6 months of assuming a supervisory position.
  • Beginning January 1, 2020, seasonal, temporary and other employees hired to work for less than 6 months must be trained within 30 calendar days after the hire date or within 100 hours worked, whichever occurs first.
